Workshop on Advanced Programming in GAP

>Third Announcement

In collaboration with the Applied Algebra Group in Linz we will hold a
workshop on advanced programming in GAP 4. The workshop will take
place this year the 6th-10th of April (this is the week immediately
following easter) in Linz, Austria.

This workshop is intended for people who have substantial experience
in working and programming in GAP who want to write code that uses
more of the ``innards'' of GAP 4. It is not suitable for people who
have no programming experience in GAP 3 or GAP 4.

A tentative list of topics includes:
* Types, Methods and Operations.
* Interfacing to the GAP library and its objects.
* Creating new kinds of objects.
* Writing a Share Package.
* Converting GAP3 code to GAP4.
* Debugging.
* Efficiency Questions.

The speakers will include:
* Thomas Breuer (Aachen),
* Bettina Eick (Kassel),
* Willem de Graaf (St. Andrews),
* Alexander Hulpke (St. Andrews),
* Steve Linton (St. Andrews),
* Werner Nickel (Darmstadt),
* Andrew Solomon (St. Andrews)

We also encourage short talks (up to 30 minutes) by the participants
about their use of GAP.

To permit interaction with the audience we are aiming at about 20
participants, these places will be allocated on a
first-come-first-serve basis.

Registration for the workshop is free, however you will have to cover
your own travel to Linz and the accomodation. Accomodation (single
room with breakfast) will cost about the equivalent of 28 Euro =~32
US$. We regret that we do not have funds to support participants.

To be able to reserve accomodation for you we need a definite
registration by the end of February.

The program will start the 6th in the morning and will finish the 10th
at noon.

Please send the appended registration to gap-workshop@dcs.st-and.ac.uk
