^ Subject: Unsubscribing from Gap Forum

REMINDER...

Dear Forum,

Occasionally on the forum, we see emails from members who are trying to
unsubscribe and having difficulty. Regarding this, let me make a few
points, by way of reminders.

First of all, may I ask, please, that any messages regarding such
difficulties with unsubscription be directed only to

gap-trouble@dcs.st-and.ac.uk

... JUST AS ALL OTHER MESSAGES CONCERNING ANY TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH
DOWNLOADING, COMPILING OR USING GAP SHOULD BE.

It is important that these messages do not go to the forum, as this list
should not be too much of a burden on its members' mailboxes.

Having said that, I should emphasise that if you wish to remove
yourself from the mailing list, you should in the first instance attempt
to do so by sending an email to

miles@dcs.st-and.ac.uk

with the following text in the body of the message:

unsubscribe gap-forum

You should not add your name to this line, nor should you allow your
signature, or other text or attachment to appear on the mail, since these
may confuse 'miles', the computer program which processes such
instructions. There need not be any subject line text.

Please also be careful that the address you send your request from is
exactly that under which you are subscribed (check the From: field, on the
mail header). Requests sent from variations on your subscribed address
will fail, as those from a secondary address.

Note that if you wish to be subscribed under a different email address,
then you should first unsubscribe from the list using the original and
then subscribe again from the second address.

It can happen, that members find themselves in the scenario where they no
longer have access to the email address under which they are still
subscribed to the forum. In such cases, please contact us at gap-trouble
(as with other difficulties, as above) and explain the situation to us. We
will remove you from the list.

By saying all of this I hope not to encourage anyone to leave us! The
forum is a valuable meeting place for people working with GAP and -- we
feel -- does not swamp its members' mailboxes with too many mails. We
continue to welcome your feedback.

Thank you for remaining with us.

John
