Hi, list.

Can anyone help me track a problem with my installation of GAP 4r1 for

I have installed GAP 4r1 this week in my PC but cannot type the caret
(for exponents) or quotation symbols (for delimiting char strings) in
the GAP command line.
The context is the following:

- The machine runs w/ a pentium MMX 233 MHz CPU and 64MB DIMM RAM.
- The SO version is Windows 95 4.00.950 B, Portuguese language.
- The GAP program was installed from the arquive gappc4r1.zoo.
- The bugfixes from wbin4r1n1.zoo and fix4r1n2.zoo were downloaded and
installed in this order.
- The keyboard being used is of standard type with 101/102 keys.
- The codepage being loaded at boot is 850.
- The DOS command interpreter called from the DOS box within Windows
correctly echoes the characters ^ and " when typed, but the GAPW95
loaded from there does not recognize nor echoes these characters.
- The Windows keyboard control does not allow the parameter "language"
to be set or changed for the DOS box where GAP runs.
- The contents of the config.sys file being loaded is the following:
device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)

I apologize if this question has been raised and answered before in this
forum, but I was not able to find references to this problem in the web
pages I visited. This is my first posting to this list.
