The Mathematical Society of Japan (MSJ) was founded in 1877 as the Tokyo Sugaku Kaisha. This was the first academic society to be founded in Japan. The present form of the Mathematical Society of Japan came into existence in 1946. The business affairs of the Society are conducted by The Board of Trustees who are elected members of the Committee of the Council.
