GAP has a command-line interface, yes.
Actually most, if not all, computer algebra systems have
that kind of an interface, perhaps having in addition a
mouse-controlled help browser.

On Windows GAP runs in the standard command prompt window,
but this is not so hard to change for another "window"
that offers similar features, e.g. with rxvt.
See an earlier thread on this in the GAP Forum.
You might like it better, especially if you run a non-English
version of Windows, and/or have problems copying-pasting from/into
the GAP window.

HTH,
Dmitrii.
